Planning prévisionnel campagne TOG (dernier edit 29 sept 2024
details
@everyone Exciting news on the The Other Guys campaign! BoD has approved my proposal to extend the Act 1 by further 3 missions to increase a bit the time we spend in September 1942. This would allow us better to cover the Axis assault on Stalingrad with still substantial Soviet resistance in the air before things cooled down a bit. Act 2 with probably 6 missions will focus on start of the Soviet offensive in November which will offer a completely different scenario with snow, bad weather and strong Soviet ground / air push. We will take one week break after mission 6 and continue with 3 missions block to conclude Act 1 followed by 2 weeks breaks and commencing of the Act 2 which would lead us until end of the year 2024.
Overall timeline could look like this:

M5 - 29.09.2024
M6 - 06.10.2024

Break - 13.10.2024

M7 - 20.10.2024

Et après donc on rempli les AAR sur leur site, pour le roleplay.
Le genre d'after action reports qu'on trouve.
Spigot lead SOVA
Joined the unit at last, replacing a distinguished officer who is presumably now being trained for greater things. The journey was riddled with air attacks and artillery strikes, the delay meaning I am several days behind.

Pleased to find that the 2IC has kept standards high, with impressive discipline all round and strong adherence to procedures.

We took off in good order, visual with some unidentified aircraft in the vicinity of Stalingrad. I elected to climb so that we could meet them at even energy, allowing maximum damage if they were fascists. We turned in when they disappeared, before GOLUB called up and gave us a vector to a fight ongoing with CHAYKA. We came in above an ongoing furball, I had BLUE stay high while RED and YELLOW made attacks. I made a single slashing pass on Stukas, letting my speed get a little high so I nosed up and missed. As the cohesion dropped slightly and the fight dispersed, I had us turn East and reform. In the attack YELLOW 4, who had been complaining of control isues earlier in the sortie, collided with and bravely destroyed one of the invaders' aircraft.

This went off smoothly and we turned back in to take up our assigned CAP. As we approached, we found some bandits above us suddenly coming from the bright layer around the sun. These were handily dodged by all and we escaoed as per the orders to avoid fighters. Again we reformed, heading South to sweep over the other end of the CAP on return.

As we moved back in, GOLUB came on again with more Stukas and bandits over the Volga. We managed to catch the dive bombers on their attack run, thought they rolled in before we could get down to them. This meant that we were right down to the deck to catch them, and some Italian fighters were able to attack. The other two sections had stayed high and these enemies snuck in underneath so I was hit along with my No. 2. We both escaped and managed to RTB. As they descended to assist, YELLOW and BLUE \were then accosted by the same bandit a/c as earlier, and more took hits. We gave a good account despite this, with 6 or 7 of the Romanian and Italian Fascists destroyed for the loss of only a couple of brave pilots.

Recovery was well managed, BLUE 1 now in charge as I had been forced home by damage. We shall drink tonight to our lost comrades and glorious victory!

B FLIGHT:
BLUE: 1. HotDog (02), 2. Tommy (44), 3. Pablo (03), 4. CamelBag (18)

NARRATIVE: The squadron took off in good order and circle-climbed over Srednyaya Ahtuba. As we approached the Volga RED section were attacked from above by bandits, but evaded them, with Django taking some light damage. We reformed and went back in (this time with my Wingman becoming Von Pepofen). GOLUB reported contacts over central Stalingrad. I saw a 2 ship of small aircraft low on the Volga to my 10 o’clock, but then saw 4 larger aircraft coming East over the Volga. I called them in and identified them as Stukas. RED 1 gave me lead and I attacked with RED 4. They banked in hard left back over the Volga and dived to attack Stalingrad. The rear most aircraft dove too hard for me to safely follow, so I went for the lead 2 aircraft. Their bombs thankfully went very short, landing in the river. I hit the 2nd aircraft with a short burst, setting both his wings on fire and watching him go in. I pulled off North East, seeing my wingman hit another Stuka. Macchis were called in coming from above and we pulled out East. VonPepo got sixed by a Macchi, taking some hits. I chased him off, getting some hits in his low fuselage, and cleared RED 4. The squadron cleared one another beneath the clouds over Sarpinsky island then recovered back at Srednyaya Ahtuba.

After Action Report – 651st Squadron Patrol Flight

September 14, 1942

Today, I had my first sortie with the 651st squadron, filling in as SOVA Yellow leader after the designated flight lead fell ill. I had only two hours' notice to prepare, so this was my first experience leading a section within the squadron. Our mission was a Combat Air Patrol (CAP) over the Volga River, with SOVA Red, Yellow, and Blue sections each composed of four aircraft. My flight consisted of “Genius” as my number two, “VonPepo” as my number three, and “Arrow” as my number four.

We established our position to the left of the formation. At 15:07, reports came in of Stukas attacking Stalingrad. Upon receiving the go-ahead to engage, I allowed my wingman to guide us toward the targets since I was still getting used to the tasks of leading the flight.

During a steep dive, I watched as Red section engaged the Stukas from the flank, keeping their rear gunners occupied. I then closed in on a Stuka to the left of their leader at high speed and fired at point-blank range, delivering heavy damage. I saw it spiral down with a parachute deploying, confirming the kill.

While regrouping, I realized that Yellow 4, “Arrow,” had gone silent. Fearing the worst, we carried on, reforming with the rest of SOVA and pushing westward once more.

Not long after, we encountered a flight of four enemy aircraft at our 11 o’clock, high. I ordered Yellow 2 to break, just in time to avoid incoming fire. We attempted to escape eastward, but Yellow 3, “VonPepo,” also went silent. Fortunately, I later learned that he had successfully linked up with another section.

Genius and I remained the last of Yellow section, providing high cover over the Volga as Red and Blue engaged below. Unable to locate the enemy myself, I held position above, keeping us in reserve. Soon enough, the situation below took a turn for the worse, and I heard the call to disengage. We spotted a new wave of Romanian fighters arriving, heading straight for Red and Blue sections. I led Yellow 2 into a Split-S to scatter the enemy and regain the initiative.

Genius and I engaged with renewed energy, each of us firing on enemy aircraft. I damaged two opponents, though I couldn’t confirm if one of them recovered from its dive. In an instant, the remainder of the enemy flight swarmed us. I ordered Yellow 2 to disengage east, but I was soon overwhelmed, taking fire from multiple directions. Despite my evasive maneuvers, I sustained damage and began to feel the physical toll of the negative G-forces.

Just when all hope seemed lost, Blue leader called out on the radio that he had me in sight. At that moment, the fire ceased, and the sky behind me cleared. I found myself just south of Sred. Ahtuba and declared an emergency landing, bringing my damaged aircraft down safely.
